These wooden fingers are another addition to my collection of museum artefacts for my third year project. With these I was looking at how fingers have a significant place in life and overall history with many different memories being associated with how fingers can be used. The fact that they can be used in violence, love, judgement or power really interested me. They are perhaps the one of the most important parts of the body and can easily display what kind of person you are with subtle characteristics like scars or jewellery.
I believe these suit a museum excellently as they are ultimately incomplete artefacts as you would see an incomplete statue in a museum, yet like the broken statue they reveal years of history that I am resurfacing and displaying.
These sculptures are all constructed from a variety of wood types and carved using traditional wood whittling tools.
Dimensions: From 11cm to 6cm in length
