An Ancestor 2 (2022) Artefact series

When viewing my ancestors via family tree I am continuously interested at how my past relatives appeared. There are a select number of photographs depicting them however they can never do the correct justice of showing their full appearance, and there are the many numbers of ancestors that lived during a time with no cameras and no money for paintings or sculptures. This sculpture therefore is my exaggerated representation of one of my past relatives, focusing mostly on the 'ugly' features that they could be recognised from. This allows me to ask questions about these people I've never met, such as would they be kind people? Mean and cynical? This sculpture represents that weird reality of how alien my ancestors are to me.

This sculpture was made using a variety of woods and carved using traditional whittling knives.

Dimensions: 12.3 x 7.9cm
