Musical Instrument (2021) Artefact series

 The first topic that comes up when discussing history is war, it is a constant factor of life that is always present. Many museums therefore contain a large collection of war memorabilia including weapons, armour, medals etc. When it comes to war memorabilia within my ancestry there is virtually nothing of the sort only stories of them being used as cannon fodder and dying in senseless acts of violence. This specific sculpture a gun turned into a musical instrument is therefore made in response to the one ancestor that I had that was a conscientious objector during one of the world wars. From all of the stories that my relatives have mentioned this is the only one that has stuck in my mind. I am therefore immortalising them within my personal museum. 

This sculpture was created using a variety of wood types and carved using traditional wood whittling tools.
