Nostalgia (2022) Artefact series
I created these representations of a nose and mouth due to the ever-present memories that I have of relatives living and dead. I find that I will always remember their smell or the smell of their home, mostly due to them smoking, cooking or wearing a certain perfume. Another thing that I could never forget is the voices of these people that are important to me. The distinctive phrases or speech patterns are still revolving around in my head many years after they've passed. These are memories filled with joy and I hope I never forget the people associated with these senses therefore I have attempted to immortalised them in this sculpture. This sculpture was created from a variety of woods and carved using traditional whittling tools. Dimensions: nose 9.4 x 4.7cm & mouth 10.5 x 6.2cm
